Why Okowa and Delta governor, Oborevwori visited me– governor Douye Diri

The governor of Bayelsa state, Douye Diri has revealed that Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori accompanied by his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa visited him on 31st of May, 2025 in Bayelsa state.

The governor through his X handle, revealed that Ifeanyi Okowa and Oborevwori’s visit was to discuss the joint interest of Bayelsa state and Delta State in the face of the Federal government ongoing Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.

He said the meeting was necessary ahead of president Bola Tinubu’s commissioning of the incomplete Lagos-Calabar coastal road which crossed the two states and to discuss the economic advantage of such an important infrastructure.

He wrote: “Our discussion centred around collaboration as states in the Niger Delta. In particular, we discussed how our region will derive the full benefits of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road that will cross-cross our states ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration of the first phase of the project in Lagos this Saturday”.

Many had in reaction to the meeting, wondered if Ifeanyi Okowa and Oborevwori were wooing governor Douye Diri to join the ruling party as they have done. Governor Diri remains a leading member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the south-south of the federation.

His recent feud with Nyesom Wike over the control of the South South PDP leadership and confrontation with pro-Wike and Tinubu group in Bayelsa state had proven that the governor who is currently in his second tenure, might not be considering defection as his fellow south south state-governors.
