London Gatwick Airport evacuation as fire alarm rings out at transport hub
Footage shared online shows people streaming to the airport’s exits as a fire alarm rang out.
Gatwick Airport confirmed the South Terminal Departure Lounge was evacuated this morning after a fire alarm. Fire services rushed to the site and passengers have since been allowed to re-enter the airport.
A London Gatwick spokesperson told The Mirror: “London Gatwick’s South Terminal Departure Lounge was evacuated for a short time this morning due to a fire alarm activation.
“Our dedicated Airport Fire Service swiftly attended and confirmed there was no fire. Passengers were allowed back into the Departure Lounge shortly after.
“Safety and security are our top priority and we resolved the situation as quickly as possible.”
The Mirror that the airport was evacuated for a short time this morning due to a fire alarm going off but this has since stopped.
A spokesperson confirmed there was no fire and passengers have been allowed to return to the airport.

Videos from holidaymakers have recorded what appears to be a fire alarm at the airport this morning.
It is unclear why this alarm was sounded and what caused it to be set off. The Mirror has reached out to Gatwick Aiport for comment.
A raging Gatwick Airport flyer took to X this morning and claimed staff did not know where to send them during an evacuation.
This passenger called on the airport to “train your staff” amid reports of a fire alarm at the site today.
The flyer said: “@Gatwick_Airport Train your staff for fire alarms. Customers asking where to go when fire alarm went off and multiple staff had no idea???????”
