Lawyers in court Demand Senators Refund Salaries for Poor Performance, Dual Roles

Legislative lawyers under the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP) have filed a pre-action notice at the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal, seeking to compel Nigerian senators to refund 78% of salaries and allowances received since May 2023 over alleged poor performance.

The lawyers also demanded full refunds from 40 senators accused of violating the Constitution by holding dual membership in the Nigerian Senate and the ECOWAS or Pan-African Parliament.

In the notice dated May 26, 2025, ALDRAP cited the Senate’s 12% performance rating, failure in legislative duties, and misuse of public funds. They warned of legal action if the senators fail to comply within seven days.
