28-Year-Old Arrested for Posing as DIG Frank Mba on Facebook, Running Fake Police Recruitment Scam in Nasarawa
In a major breakthrough against cybercrime and recruitment fraud, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) have arrested 28-year-old Dauda Samuel for impersonating the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba, and operating a fake Facebook account to lure desperate job seekers into a fraudulent Police recruitment scheme.
The suspect was arrested in Panda Village, Nasarawa State, following credible intelligence and multiple public complaints about an online scam syndicate impersonating top Police officials to extort money from unsuspecting citizens.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the suspect used the name and images of DIG Frank Mba to give credibility to his fake profile, promising victims employment opportunities within the Nigeria Police Force in exchange for money.
“Preliminary investigations have confirmed that the suspect exploited DIG Mba’s identity to deceive and extort vulnerable Nigerians desperate to join the Police Force,” ACP Adejobi disclosed, noting that the arrest marks a significant victory against cyber impersonation and online recruitment fraud.
The suspect is said to have confessed to the crime and is currently assisting the Police with critical information that could lead to the arrest of more accomplices. Cyber forensic experts are actively analyzing his digital footprint.
Police have reiterated their stern warning to the public: no Police recruitment is conducted via social media or personal contacts. Nigerians are urged to verify any recruitment exercise via official Police channels and immediately report any suspicious activity.
ACP Adejobi confirmed that the suspect will face charges under the criminal laws of the State after investigations are concluded.
This case is a stark reminder of the growing threat of digital impersonation and the need for heightened vigilance in an age where fraudsters exploit social media to prey on the hopes and dreams of innocent citizens.
