Abducted Kwara road workers released after weeks in captivity

Seven construction workers abducted in December 2025 from a Kwara state government road project have been released after weeks in captivity.

The workers were kidnapped on December 15 along the Sabaja–Owa-Onire road in Isin LGA while carrying out construction duties.

Olajide Abolarin, press secretary to the Kwara state ministry of works, confirmed the release in a statement issued on Monday in Ilorin.

Abdulquawy Olododo, commissioner for works and transport, said the workers regained their freedom through coordinated efforts involving the state government and security agencies.

Olododo described the release as a major victory for public safety in the state.

He commended AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for demonstrating strong political will in tackling insecurity.

The commissioner noted that two of the freed workers were engineers employed by the Kwara state ministry of Works.

“We are grateful to His Excellency and the security agencies. We also appreciate everyone who stood by us during these difficult times,” Olododo said.
