Akintoye reiterated his long-standing support for the Yoruba nation’s self-determination movement, stating that Yorubaland must break free from the destructive patterns seen in the Nigerian federation.
Prominent Yoruba leader and National Leader of Yoruba Self-Determination Movement (YSDM), Prof. Banji Akintoye, has issued a stirring call to Yoruba indigenes across the world, urging unity, swift action, and a firm commitment to building a better future for the Yoruba people.
In an impassioned address delivered on Sunday, Prof. Akintoye warned against the spread of Nigeria’s socio-political and cultural decay into Yorubaland. He emphasised the urgent need to preserve the region’s identity and chart a new path toward development and self-determination.
Recalling the legacy of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who spearheaded rapid development in Western Nigeria during the 1950s as its Premier, Akintoye expressed confidence that the Yoruba Nation could achieve even greater success in less than five years, with the right mindset and divine support.
“We Yorubas will make our country a great nation in the world in less than five years by God’s power. This is your duty. Everybody, be determined—the day is about to dawn, and you should be ready,” he declared.
Akintoye reiterated his long-standing support for the Yoruba nation’s self-determination movement, stating that Yorubaland must break free from the destructive patterns seen in the Nigerian federation.
He urged Yoruba youths in the diaspora to return home and take part in rebuilding a nation that reflects their values and heritage.
“You just need to come home quickly to free and make the country better so that they will not turn it into what Nigeria is. No Nigerian culture should be allowed into our country—it is different,” he said.
Undeterred by age, Akintoye pledged to remain a steadfast supporter of the cause, assuring the people of his readiness to stand with them.
“I, your father, am ready. Truly, I am old, but I am ready; I will be solidly behind you in God’s power,” he said.
Akintoye concluded his speech on a note of optimism and encouragement, praising the efforts of Yoruba people around the world and expressing confidence in the movement’s success.
