Wild fire raises factories in Kwara

Two different fire outbreaks in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, have destroyed a yam flour factory and a printing press within the span of 24 hours.

The first outbreak happened around 11 pm on Friday at Kunzol multi-sector Nigeria limited in the Kilanko–Agbonka area of Ilorin south.

The spokesman of the Kwara state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, said the fire spread quickly and completely razed the yam flour and garri factory.

He explained that a preliminary investigation showed the fire started from remnants of an unquenched fire, which ignited nearby materials and led to a bigger blaze.

He revealed the second fire occurred around 3:15 pm on Saturday at Unik AJ prints along Opomalu Road in Ilorin East. The printing press which is a storey building with two large halls, was badly burnt, including printing machines and production materials.

Adekunle said firefighters responded quickly and worked hard to stop the fire from spreading to other buildings in the crowded area. According to him, the Saturday fire was believed to have been caused by a spark from the inverter system, which ignited combustible materials.

The fire service urged residents and business owners to take safety precautions seriously to prevent similar incidents.
