Wike is Giving Rice To People And Telling Them To Vote Tinubu And Not To Vote For Fubara -Igbe

Ijaw leader and Rivers State elder statesman Anabs Sara-Igbe has accused FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of distributing rice to Rivers State residents during New Year rallies in an attempt to influence voters against Governor Siminalayi Fubara in the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an interview with Symfoni TV, Sara-Igbe questioned Wike’s motives behind the rice distribution. “You (Wike) are giving rice to people and telling them that they should vote for the president, but they should not vote for Siminalayi. What else do you want as campaigning? You can come out and say, ‘Vote for Tinubu. Don’t vote for Siminalayi.’ Why are you campaigning? If the president wants to go and say ‘thank you,’ are you the one to come? What? Did the president send somebody from his office to represent?” he said.

The elder statesman criticized the short-term nature of the rice distribution and its effectiveness as a political strategy. “Because you have hatred for Siminalayi, you felt they can give 12.5 kg rice across the state, and people will be happy. How long will that 12.5 kg rice last them? How long will they use it, and it is finished? By now, nobody has any rice left.” he stated.

Sara-Igbe condemned Wike’s actions as contrary to law and accused the minister of believing he is above legal constraints. He argued that meaningful gratitude to Rivers people would involve addressing fundamental infrastructure deficits including water supply, roads, and healthcare facilities rather than distributing temporary food items that provide no lasting benefit to residents.
