Wike and Fubara have made peace… so why is Tinubu still running Rivers like a war zone?” – Kenneth Okonkwo fumes.

Tension is back on the burner

Legal firebrand, Kenneth Okonkwo, has tackled President Tinubu over the ongoing emergency rule in Rivers State, insisting it makes no sense to keep running the state under a sole administrator while pretending “peace” has returned.

In a fresh interview published by Sunday Sun, Okonkwo questioned why the emergency arrangement hasn’t been lifted, even after Wike and Gov. Fubara publicly hugged and announced reconciliation to the whole world.

What’s more puzzling?
A local government election is already being planned for August 30 under the sole administrator an arrangement Okonkwo described as “unconstitutional and dangerous.”

“If Wike and Fubara have truly reconciled, why is a state of emergency still in place? And why hasn’t the elected governor and Rivers Assembly been fully restored?” he asked.

Many see this as a direct warning shot at the presidency ahead of 2027 especially with Ijaw youths already blocking roads and threatening to withdraw support if “peace isn’t backed with action”.

Popa Question:
If real peace has returned to Rivers, should Tinubu immediately lift the emergency rule and reinstate full democratic process yes or no?
