Why It’s Impossible To Carryout Coup In Aso Rock Against Nigerian President –Experts Reveal

There is seemingly military coup pandemic in Africa, west Africa particularly. Military coups appear to be sweeping across the Sahel as democratic institutions have seemingly failed integrity tests, waning the hope of citizens in democratic leadership. Understandably why these military takes-over are usually celebrated by the masses.

Nigeria, the most populous black nation in the world reportedly encountered military coup scare in the month of September, 2025. As a result, about sixteen top ranking military officers were arrested and currently detained in connection to the failed military coup against president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Nigeria’s neighbour, Benin republic is currently struggling to frustrate a reported attempt by mutineers led by colonel Tigri to take over power in the west African country that shares strong cultural and ethnic connection with Nigeria.

In view of this, analysts have argued that its impossible for military to usurp power from Nigeria’s president in the current Nigeria’s political dispensation. They highlighted factors that make the Nigeria’s president almost inviolable to mutiny:

The Layers Security Structure In Aso Rock, The Presidential Villa:

Aso Rock has six different military bases about it alongside with the headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force, The Department Of Secret Service, and the office of the National Security Advisor.

This implies that these layers of security which serve the Nigeria’s president and his interest (the president being the commander in chief) must be compromised for the mutineers to make inroad into the Presidential Villa

Tribal and Ethnic Loyalty:

Nigeria’s diversity has been described as its major strength, this also reflects in the composition of the Nigeria’s armed forces. Experts argue that a military officer whose tribesman is the president of the country, will unlikely join hands with other officers from other ethnicity to topple the leadership of his tribesman. Hence, the military officers whose tribesman is in power will likely give his allegiance to the president in power who shares ethnicity with him than to the military hierarchy.

The architectural design of the Aso Rock, it’s topography and natural frontiers:

The design of the Aso Rock presidential villa and its localization have been described as intriguing. The presidential villa is located directly adjacent to the Aso Rock, making the mountain a strategic formidable barrier to attack from the rear and sides of the presidential villa. Hence, attack can only come through the front of the villa where diverse technological and military barriers have been embedded. Attack from this angle will definitely be neutralized before reaching the president.

The distance between the main gate to the villa and the presidential villa itself is about 6km. Hence, this distance makes it possible for the presidential guard to see, identify, and neutralize any threat. The Aso Rock villa is adjudged the most guarded presidential villa in Africa.

Logistics And Centralized Telecommunication

Analysts argue that most of the Nigeria’s past military coups happened in Lagos before the capital territory was relocated to Abuja. Lagos State is comparatively smaller than Abuja and analysts believe that the size of Abuja will pose logistics problem to mutineers.

Also, the centralized telecommunication system has made it possible for intelligent security agencies to monitor most communication through the web and phonecalls.
