What Tinubu Told Wike When He Requested That Fubara Should Be Blocked From Joining APC–Insider
The political power tussle in Rivers state took a new twist when the state’s governor and Nyesom Wike’s political son, Sim Fubara announced his defection to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) on Wednesday, 10th of December, 2025.
Fubara’s switching to the APC happened a few days after 17 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by the speaker, Martin Amaewhule Chike defected to the APC, poised in conspiracy to execute their plot against the governor. But the governor arm twisted speaker Martin Amaewhule by moving to the APC, declaring his support for the president and announcing that he joined the APC to get protection from the president– presumably, he is to be protected from the conspiracy of the Wike controlled Rivers state House of Assembly.
A source close to governor Fubara has informed the Reliant.ng that the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike desperately sought to stop governor Fubara from joining the APC by trying to influence the party’s hierarchy including appealing to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to block Fubara from joining the APC.
“He talked to the Rivers State APC chairman when he realized Fubara’s secret moves. Wike told the Rivers state APC chair, Tony Okocha to block Fubara from joining but Okocha told him that he does not have such powers. So Wike went to Abuja, he spoke to the national chairman and the national secretary of the APC who also told him that they would seek the consent of the president on the matter. So instead of waiting for the chairman or the secretary to meet the president, Wike went to the presidency by himself. He spoke to Femi Gbajabiamila, the president’s chief of staff. Gbajabiamila told Wike that the president has appealed to the parties to respect the terms of their reconciliation which they agreed to a few months ago. He was frustrated in Abuja and here. When he couldn’t meet the president directly, he started calling the president on the phone. The president told him same thing Gbajabiamila had told him. Fubara has respected the peace deal but Wike wants the governor to become a complete puppet. Even Adams Oshiomhole does respects Monday Okpebholo but Wike does not have any respect for his Excellency Fubara. He was heartbroken when he saw Fubara with Mr. President in Aso Rock. The president could not see Wike but met with Fubara”, the source narrated.
The source added that the presidency understands governor Fubara’s plight, and know that Fubara is committed to peace with Nyesom Wike and the members of the Rivers state House of Assembly. He alleges however that Wike is no longer interested in peace with governor Fubara. According to him, Wike wants Fubara removed. He perceived his access to the presidency as a great threat to his political interest in Rivers state. “Fubara is now a Tinubu boy not a Wike boy”, the source said while taunting Wike.

The source further claimed that the presidency believe that former governor Nyesom Wike has been over compensated by president Tinubu who suspended Fubara in March this year and allowed Wike to appoint a sole administrator who presided over the state for six months without accountability.
“President Tinubu took risk for Wike, political risk that has made some unwanted mark on the name of administration. Fubara was removed and suspended for six months just for Wike to be compensated. The truth is that Wike is greedy and desperate”, he said
There are concerns over the political future of governor Sim Fubara following his fallout with Nyesom Wike especially on the governor reelection in 2027 and the political platform he will contest on. Political analysts and commentators believe that for the governor to have joined the APC, he might have been assured the party’s governorship ticket for 2027 by the party’s hierarchy.
