‘We’ve nothing to hide’, Trump backs full release of Epstein files

United States (US) President Donald Trump has backed calls for full release of all documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, reversing his earlier stance.

While declaring support for the release, the President said, “we’ve nothing to hide.”

He urged House Republicans to vote in favour of releasing the files as Congress prepares to decide this week on whether to publish records from the federal sex trafficking investigation.

Epstein, a well-connected financier, died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial.

“House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform late on Sunday.

He described the renewed attention on the case as a “Democrat hoax” meant to distract from Republican gains.

Critics had previously accused Trump of resisting the release to hide alleged wrongdoing, which he denies.

The dispute also caused friction within his base, including a break with Marjorie Taylor Greene. Trump has since withdrawn his endorsement of her 2026 re-election bid.

Last week, the House Oversight Committee released thousands of emails and documents from Epstein’s estate.

While Trump has not been accused of any offence, his name appears several times in the files, including in a 2019 email in which Epstein claimed Trump “knew about the girls.”

According to DM News, the White House accused Democrats of selectively leaking the emails to damage the president.
