Vigilante Discovers Two Decomposing Bodies in Kogi Forest.

Local vigilante operatives combing forests in Abocho, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, have discovered two decomposing bodies in a forest area between Emewe and Ofafu villages.

The discovery was made during routine security surveillance, and the findings were reported to the Abocho Police Division on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

The bodies were subsequently evacuated and deposited at a morgue in Anyigba for further investigation.

Police sources are reportedly linking the bodies to travellers abducted on January 6, 2026, while travelling from Abuja to the eastern part of the country. The kidnap incident was earlier reported at the Ugwolawo Police Division in Ofu Local Government Area.

Family members have so far identified one of the victims, while efforts are ongoing to establish the identity of the second body.

Local vigilantes have called for intensive bush combing across surrounding areas including Ochadamu, Ogbabo, Ajebenehi, Oji-Oto, and Oko-Wowolo, which are believed to be hideouts frequently used by kidnappers.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Police Command had yet to officially confirm the discovery. Calls and messages to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Saliu Oyiza, were unanswered.

Meanwhile, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reiterated his administration’s commitment to security, stating that Kogi State will not negotiate with criminals.

The governor made the remarks while unveiling two HP-20 state-of-the-art security drones at the Chari Maigumeri Barracks in Lokoja, noting that the drones would enhance surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response to criminal activities across the state.
