Two Residents Killed As Suspected Terrorists Attack Irunda-Ile Community In Kogi

Two residents have been confirmed dead following an early-morning attack on Irunda-Ile, a community in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, sparked tension across the area as locals reported that armed attackers stormed the community and opened fire.
A community source told SaharaReporters that the situation worsened when security operatives deployed to Isanlu–Irunda were allegedly seen shooting at unarmed residents.
“The security operatives in Isanlu–Irunda, Yagba East, reportedly shot at unarmed citizens. Two people have been shot now. We will seek legal redress,” the source said.
Residents described the attack as unprovoked, adding that the deaths have deepened fears in the community already struggling with rising insecurity.
Local sources confirmed the fatalities, noting that the victims were ordinary residents caught in the chaos of the assault.
They urged the Kogi State government and security agencies to launch a transparent investigation and bring the perpetrators — whether terrorists or erring security personnel — to justice.
Community leaders appealed for calm while calling on authorities to strengthen protection for rural settlements across Yagba East, which have witnessed recurring security threats in recent months.
The Kogi State Police Command has yet to release an official statement as of the time of filing this report.
