Tragedy in Akungba as Multiple Feared Dead as Dangote Trailer Claims Lives

 


A tragic incident struck the Akungba-Akoko community in Ondo State as a Dangote trailer reportedly lost control and rammed into several people, claiming multiple lives and leaving many others seriously injured.

 


Eyewitnesses say the accident occurred near the busy junction close to Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), throwing the entire town into mourning. The trailer, reportedly conveying cement, was said to have experienced brake failure before veering off the road and crashing into pedestrians, motorists, and roadside shops.

 


According to reports, more than ten people have been confirmed dead, including some students of Adekunle Ajasin University. Several others sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.

 


Students and Residents of the area, still in shock, have decried the frequent cases of trailer-related accidents in Akungba, calling on the government to take immediate action to address the recurring tragedy.


Some student leaders who spoke to reporters expressed sadness over the incident, describing it as “one tragedy too many. Urging authorities to restrict heavy-duty vehicles from passing through the densely populated university town or to create alternative routes.


The Ondo State Police Command and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have since arrived at the scene to manage traffic, evacuate victims, and begin investigations into the cause of the crash.


This latest tragedy adds to a series of similar accidents that have occurred in Akungba over the past few years, sparking renewed calls for improved road safety measures and enforcement around the university axis.
