Traditional practitioner arrested after confessing to using 20-year-old woman for money ritual

A 20-year-old woman, Ndèye Bigué Sène, has allegedly been killed in Tivaouane, Senegal, in a suspected ritual linked to a quest for wealth.

The suspect, identified as B. Ndiaye, a traditional spiritual practitioner and former fisherman, was arrested by officers of the Tivaouane urban police station following the discovery of the victim’s body.

According to local media, Ndiaye allegedly confessed to the killing, telling investigators that another practitioner known as “Coulibaly” instructed him to find a young virgin, give her an unknown substance, collect her bl%od and k+ll her.

Ndèye, who had travelled to Tivaouane for the Gamou religious celebrations, was reportedly found dead in a bush on Saturday, August 22, with multiple injuries. She had allegedly been st@bbed four times with a “naw-naw,” a type of knife, before being strangled.

Reports said the suspect had previously provided spiritual services for Ndèye while she prepared for her 2026 baccalaureate examinations. Although she did not obtain her diploma, the two reportedly remained in contact.

Investigators believe Ndiaye later contacted the young woman and arranged a meeting. She reportedly left her home around 8 p.m. on Friday, August 21, but her body was discovered the following afternoon.

Police reportedly traced the suspect through neighbourhood inquiries and mobile phone records. After being confronted with the evidence, he reportedly confessed to the killing but denied rape allegations.

An autopsy will determine whether the victim was sexually a§ssaulted. The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
