Tinubu’s Tax Policy Will Lead Nigeria into a “Nepal Situation” if Not Reversed – Says Comrade Femi Adesuyi, Osun  ZLP Chairman

The Federal Government’s new tax directive is a direct attack on the people’s livelihood. Under this policy, ordinary Nigerians will be compelled to pay 5% tax on every money transfer received, regardless of whether it is income, support from family, or personal funds.

To break it down:

If you receive ₦5,000, you will be forced to pay ₦250 tax.

If you receive ₦10,000, you will pay ₦500, leaving you with ₦9,500.

₦20,000 = ₦1,000 tax

₦30,000 = ₦1,500 tax

₦50,000 = ₦2,500 tax

₦100,000 = ₦5,000 tax

₦200,000 = ₦10,000 tax

₦500,000 = ₦25,000 tax

₦1,000,000 = ₦50,000 tax

This is apart from the ₦50 electronic money transfer levy already being deducted on transactions.

Imagine the hardship this will cause for traders, artisans, students, salary earners, and even families relying on stipends from loved ones. Instead of alleviating poverty, this policy will multiply suffering, stifle small businesses, and push more Nigerians below the poverty line.

From January 2026, Nigerians should brace for another round of economic hardship unless this oppressive tax policy is reversed.

We therefore call on the Federal Government to suspend this anti-people policy immediately before it plunges Nigeria into a crisis similar to what Nepal experienced due to over-taxation and economic mismanagement.

May God rescue Nigeria under this APC-led Government.
