Tinubu Govt Unveils Nationwide Online Classes For School Pupils
According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Ministry of Education has introduced the Inspire Live(s) Online Real-Time Classes Initiative, a nationwide digital education programme designed to expand access to quality learning for schoolchildren across Nigeria. The initiative, unveiled on Tuesday through a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, is aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is described as a transformative step toward equitable educational opportunities for every child.
The ministry explained that the new programme was created to address persistent challenges in the country’s education system, including inadequate numbers of qualified teachers and frequent disruptions to in-person learning. Through live, interactive virtual classes streamed directly to students, the government noted that Inspire Live(s) aims to democratise access to standardised teaching and ensure no learner is disadvantaged by geography or circumstance.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, confirmed that full deployment of the programme is already underway, with plans to extend coverage from Primary 1 through Senior Secondary School 3. For now, the Inspire platform is offering scheduled online lessons for junior and senior secondary classes from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., taught by certified master teachers via Cisco Webex.
Junior secondary subjects currently available include Basic Science, Mathematics, English Language, ICT, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology, Civic Education, French, Physical Education, Religious Studies, History, and Business Studies. Senior secondary students have access to Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing or Catering Craft, Civic Education, and Automobile Mechanics.
To ensure broad participation, the ministry has directed all state Commissioners for Education to appoint State Focal Officers to oversee Inspire Live(s) activities and disseminate information to principals of both public and private institutions. States were further instructed to ensure selected schools are equipped with essential ICT tools and internet access, as digital capacity is central to the programme’s success. Registration will be handled exclusively by school principals through official Inspire support channels.
The ministry stressed that the platform is open to all public and private schools nationwide, reaffirming that the initiative is intended to make real-time, technology-driven learning available to students everywhere as Nigeria deepens its embrace of digital education.
