The Secret of Nigeria’s Victory — By Eric Chelle, Super Eagles Coach
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has attributed Nigeria’s victory to mental readiness and unity of purpose, insisting that success at this level begins with the state of mind of the team.
Speaking after the match, Chelle said his priority has been to build a mentally alert, disciplined, and united group capable of executing instructions under pressure.
“For me, the most important thing is the state of mind of the group. Mental alertness has to be top-notch. Without it, it is very difficult to get results,” he said.
The coach explained that while tactical and technical preparation remain essential, they can only be effective when players are fully focused and committed to a common objective.
“That is what I work on all the time — mental strength and unity of purpose. When the team thinks the same way, performance follows,” Chelle added.
He noted that in the past, Nigeria sometimes failed to get the best out of its players due to distractions around the team, but stressed that such issues must remain secondary and never interfere with on-field duties.
“I believe my job is on the pitch, and that is where I concentrate,” he said, adding that administrative matters are handled by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Chelle concluded by stating that Nigeria’s current edge lies in discipline, belief, and total commitment to delivering on the pitch — qualities he believes will continue to shape the Super Eagles in the competition.
