Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been conferred the honorary citizenship of the state of Georgia, United States of America.
According to reports, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu currently serving life imprisonment in Nigeria, was on Friday, 23rd of January, proclaimed by secretary of state of Georgia, Brad Raffensperger a honorary citizen of the state of Georgia.
The certificate was received on behalf of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by former Nigeria’s ambassador to South Africa, Uche Ajulu.
This development has reintroduced Mazi Nnamdi Kanu into global limelight with his supporters weighing the benefits of his honorary citizenship in state of Georgia as well as implication on his life imprisonment.
Recall that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was on 20th of November, 2025, convicted on terrorism related charges. As a result, he was sentenced to life imprisonment by justice James Kolawole Omotosho on same date. Mr. Kanu was thereafter taken to the Sokoto correctional facility where he is serving his sentence even though his legal consultants say his conviction by justice James Kolawole Omotosho will be appealed.
