Terrorists storm Dangote cement factory, kill one in Kogi
One member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) was killed on Sunday night when suspected terrorists attacked a police position at Obajana, Kogi State, where security operatives are stationed at the Dangote Cement Factory.
According to security operatives who spoke to SaharaReporters on Monday, the attackers stormed the area late Sunday night in large numbers.
The sources further disclosed that the assault was believed to be a reprisal following a recent military operation in which over 200 terrorists were reportedly killed in the area.
“We lost one CJTF during the attack. There was no police casualty and no arms were lost,” one of the sources said.
The source explained that the terrorists attempted to overrun the police position but were successfully repelled by security forces.
“They came in their numbers, all hooded, to avenge the heavy blow they suffered where over 200 of them were killed.
“They were successfully repelled and still suffered heavy blow even as they evacuated their corpses,” the source added.
Another source confirmed that troops stationed at the Dangote Cement Factory held their ground throughout the assault, forcing the attackers to retreat after sustaining further casualties.
“Last night, some terrorists attacked a police position at Obajana. The troops were stationed at Dangote’s Cement Factory at Obajana,” the source reiterated.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the attack.
Terrorists have increased their attacks in different states of the federation and are even further extending to the South West. Last week, bandits stormed the Oyo National Park, killing over five personnel. Days later, the bandits wrote a letter to the residents of Ikoyi-Ile town in Oyo State informing them that they would attack them.
