Sheikh Mustapha, a reverred cleric and leader of Munazzamatul Fityanul Islam in Kankara Local Government Area, was abducted by bandits from his hometown, Unguwar Mai Kawo, in yet another chilling attack that underscores the worsening security situation in Nigeria’s North-West region.
Terrorists operating in Katsina State have killed a popular Islamic scholar, Sheikh Mustapha Aliyu Unguwar Mai Kawo, after holding him hostage for nearly three weeks.
Sheikh Mustapha, a reverred cleric and leader of Munazzamatul Fityanul Islam in Kankara Local Government Area, was abducted by bandits from his hometown, Unguwar Mai Kawo, in yet another chilling attack that underscores the worsening security situation in Nigeria’s North-West region.
His death was announced late Friday evening by a security analyst known on X (formerly Twitter) as Bakatsine.
“SAD NEWS: Bandits have killed Sheikh Mustapha Aliyu Unguwar Mai Kawo, a respected Islamic scholar & leader of Munazzamatul Fityanul Islam in Kankara LGA, Katsina State, after nearly 3 weeks in captivity,” the post read.
The killing of the scholar has sparked online outrage, with many netizens describing it as a devastating blow to the community and a tragic reminder of government failure to tackle terrorism and banditry ravaging northern Nigeria.
