Tension in Akure as Sowore Demands Justice for Suspended Amotekun Officers

A peaceful protest rocked Akure, Ondo State, on Thursday as former presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore led demonstrators calling for justice for suspended officers of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps).

Carrying placards with various inscriptions, protesters demanded the immediate reinstatement of the affected officers and the reversal of their alleged wrongful declaration as wanted persons.

Addressing the crowd, Sowore condemned what he described as growing abuse of power within state security outfits.
“Those we are hoping would evolve into state police have already begun to misuse authority,” he said, urging the government to ensure transparency and fairness by issuing proper appointment letters and resolving the crisis.

The demonstrators also demanded an investigation into the allegations that gunmen linked to the Amotekun Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, attacked the homes of some officers, forcing them into hiding.

The affected officers, Akinsipe Victor Temitope, Ekujumi Julius, and Abu Taiwo, were reportedly suspended after requesting appointment letters and clarification on their terms of service.

Human rights lawyer Tope Temokun, representing the officers, called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to intervene and guarantee their safety, describing the situation as “an attempt to silence those who dared to demand accountability.”
