Survivor Recounts Tragic Incident as Five Reportedly Die After Eating Food in Kogi Community
IHIMA, KOGI STATE — A reported food poisoning incident in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, has left five people dead, while four others, including a survivor identified as Nana Jimoh, reportedly received medical treatment.

Nana, recounting the incident, said she prepared the food five days before the tragedy and ate it with her husband and their four children.
According to her, the family continued eating the remaining food after it was warmed the following day, with another woman in the household also eating from the meal.
She said tragedy struck the next day when she lost her children.
“I prepared the food five days ago, so I ate from the food, even my four children with my husband. So as we ate the food, the second day I warmed the remaining one and we still ate together with one woman in our house,” Nana recounted.
“As we ate, the next day I lost my children. Even my dog that ate from the food died.”
Nana said she later developed severe stomach pain and was rushed to the hospital alongside her child. She explained that medical personnel treated her and that she was able to expel the contents of her stomach.
“As they rushed us with my child to the hospital, I felt stomach pain. The nurse gave me an injection and I flushed everything out. Even my husband. I even did a scan there,” she said.
The incident has reportedly thrown the community into mourning, with the deaths of five people raising concerns over what may have caused the suspected food poisoning.
Four people, including Nana, are said to have survived and received medical attention.
The exact cause of the deaths has not been independently established, and further medical or official investigation would be required to determine whether contaminated food was responsible for the tragedy.
The incident has also renewed concerns about food safety, proper food storage and the need for prompt medical attention whenever symptoms of suspected food poisoning occur.
