Student Dies After Being Stabbed At University Freshers’ Party

According to the police, the dispute involved an 18-year-old, Jafar Musa of the Angwan-Gwari area of Kontagora, and Simon.

A 25-year-old student of the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, Niger State, Seyi Simon, has died following a fight during a party for newly admitted students.

The state police command confirmed the incident, which took place at the school hall. Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, provided details on April 5.

“At about 1.40am, it was reported at A Division Kontagora that during a party organised by the students for the newly admitted students, there was a misunderstanding,” the police said.

According to the police, the dispute involved an 18-year-old, Jafar Musa of the Angwan-Gwari area of Kontagora, and Simon.

“The faceoff between the 18-year-old Jafar Musa of the Angwan-Gwari area of Kontagora and Seyi Simon, who is a student of the school, led to a fight between the duo,” Abiodun explained.

During the confrontation, Musa reportedly used a dagger on Simon.

“Unfortunately, Musa stabbed the student with a dagger, who was rushed to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where he was confirmed dead,” the spokesman stated.

The police confirmed that Musa has been arrested.

Authorities have called on students to remain calm while investigations continue.

Police also urged the public to avoid spreading rumours as the case is being investigated.
