Sowore Blasts “Shameless” APC Governors Over Viral Video Praising Tinubu Amid Insecurity, Hardship

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has lashed out at governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following a viral video showing them publicly praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The video, which has sparked widespread reactions on social media, captured the APC governors singing “On your mandate we shall stand” and offering the President a celebratory “three gbosa” applause during what appeared to be their governors’ forum meeting.
Reacting to the footage, Sowore took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to condemn the governors, describing their actions as disgraceful and indicative of deeper governance failures across the country.
“SHAMELESS STATE GOVERNORS. These are the ‘elected’ jokers holding Nigeria back, governing on a mandate that lacks legitimacy and dragging the country, Nigeria, in the wrong direction through their individual misgoverned states,” he wrote.
Sowore is a long-time critic of Nigeria’s political elite, and has consistently questioned the legitimacy of the 2023 elections that brought the current administration into power, often alleging systemic irregularities and voter suppression.
His latest comments come amid growing concerns among civil society groups and opposition figures over the increasing political sycophancy and lack of accountability among elected officials, particularly those aligned with the ruling APC.
Critics argue that the current economic hardship facing millions of Nigerians, including rising inflation, currency instability, and insecurity, makes such conduct appear especially insensitive.
President Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023 after a highly contested election, has faced mounting pressure over his administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates.
While the government maintains that these policies are necessary for long-term stability, many Nigerians continue to grapple with their immediate impact.
Sowore, who ran against Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election under the AAC, has remained one of the most vocal opposition figures, frequently using his platform to call for systemic political change.
The video has further ignited backlash on social media against the governors, President Tinubu and his administration.
An X user, @OBAF4U wrote, “These clowns in APC will never guarantee development, security and welfare of the ordinary people.
“They are in office to serve their selfish interests. A bunch of people who have turned our democracy into a monarchy where the national anthem takes a back seat whilst they sing to one ruler.”
Another X user, @Youthinprocess wrote, “Shameless sounds loud, but elections are quieter, they reward who shows up. Low turnout, vote selling, and blind loyalty can turn small groups into mandates.
“No blame, just math. If we want better governors, we must out-organize them at the polls. PVC ready, or vibes only again?”
