Sit-at-home continues in Aba as traders stay away from markets

The Monday sit-at-home which was late last week called off by the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu continued in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State on Monday as traders stayed away from markets as usual.

Information from the city has it that shop owners in major markets including Ariaria, Ahịa Ọhụrụ (popularly known as Ngwa road market), Cemetery, Asa Nnentu Spareparts Market and Ekeoha Shopping centre were all closed.

However, shops along major streets in the city as usual, opened for business.

Commercial banks, schools and other public institutions in Aba, remained under lock and key.

Some traders who spoke to newsmen under anonymity said they decided to stay away from the markets to study the situation of things taking any decision.

Intra and intercity transport activities went on as usual, but there were no traders from outside the state who usually throng the city to buy goods.

Businesses and other activities moved on in Umuahia which had not observed the sit-at-home since it started.
