Sheikh Gumi Responds To Sharia Council Call For INEC Chairman Sack

Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has reacted to the agitation by the Supreme Council for Islamic Judicial Affair the immediate sack of professor Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Judicial Affair, Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar had urged president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately disengage professor Joash Amupitan as the INEC chairman, citing a legal brief by professor Joash Amupitan in 2020 in which he sought foreign intervention in religious viólence against christians in Nigeria.

 

Hence, the leadership of the Sharia Council accuses professor Joash Amupitan of bigotry and partiality, citing his earlier stance on christian genócide. The Sharia Council also stated that it will likely not accept the outcome of any election conducted by professor Joash Amupitan if he is not removed.

 

While reacting to the Supreme Council for Islamic Judicial Affair’s call for professor Amupitan’s sack, Sheikh Gumi stated through his Facebook page that the Nigeria’s government need to listen to the complaints and concerns raised by the Sharia Council and act accordingly.
