Shehu Sani Urges Tinubu to Credit Obasanjo, Emefiele for National Arts Theatre Renovation
Former Kaduna lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to acknowledge the roles played by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, in the completion of the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The federal government had in July 2024 renamed the historic complex the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts in honour of Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate.
Sani, however, stressed that credit should also go to past leaders who contributed to the project.
“The renaming of the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, to The Wole Soyinka Centre for Arts and Creative Arts is commendable,” Sani wrote on X
“Credit should be given to Obasanjo for building the edifice for FESTAC ’77, and appreciation to Mr Godwin Emefiele for mobilising the Bankers’ Committee to renovate it back to life after decades of neglect.”
