Rivers youths arrest alleged PHED official over cable theft

Youths in Odiereke Ubie Community, Ahoada West LGA of Rivers State, have apprehended a man identified as a PHED official for allegedly stealing electric cables and transformer parts.

Reports say he came from Port Harcourt with two others, who reportedly escaped when they were caught removing the materials.

The suspect, identified as Divine Bassey, claimed he was sent by a linesman from the Rumukurushi office.

Residents alleged that over 16 electricity poles and two transformers were vandalised.

The suspect has been handed over to the police, while the Ahoada West LGA Chairman has taken over the case and promised efforts to ensure PHED compensates the community.
