Rivers State Secretariat Complex on Fire
Tension gripped Port Harcourt on Monday morning as fire broke out at the Rivers State Secretariat Complex, housing several key ministries and government departments.
Eyewitnesses say thick black smoke was seen billowing from one of the upper floors of the main building around 9 a.m., sending workers and visitors into a state of panic.
Firefighters from the state fire service and nearby oil companies were quickly deployed to the scene, battling to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent offices.
As of press time, the cause of the fire remains unknown, though sources suggest it might have been triggered by an electrical fault. No casualties have been confirmed yet, but several important documents and equipment are feared destroyed.
Security operatives have cordoned off the area as emergency responders continue their operations.
