Respect Court Order, Avoid Restricted Areas in Abuja – Police Warn Protesters

The Nigeria Police Force has warned all protesters and groups to obey a new Federal High Court order stopping demonstrations around key areas in Abuja, including Aso Rock, the National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.

The order, issued by Justice M.G. Umar on October 17, 2025, came after a case involving Omoyele Sowore and four others. The Police say the decision aims to protect public safety, not to silence anyone’s rights. They reminded citizens that while peaceful protest is allowed, it must be done within the law.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered tight security in the FCT to stop violence or property damage. The Police also warned that anyone caught breaking the order, carrying weapons, or inciting violence, online or offline will face arrest and prosecution.
