Relief In Kwara As 38 Abducted Church Members Finally Rejoin Families After Days Of Uncertainty
Thirty-eight worshippers kidnapped in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have finally been reunited with their families, ending days of tension and confusion over their whereabouts. The victims were abducted on November 18, 2025, during a thanksgiving service at CAC Oke Isegun, an attack that left three people dead and one injured.
Although officials had earlier announced their rescue, reports revealed that the victims were still being held by authorities, prompting public concern. A statement late Tuesday night from Dada Sunday, Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti LGA Chairman, confirmed that the abductees were officially handed over to the council chairman, Awelewa Olawale Gabriel, in Ilorin by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The handover followed what was described as a coordinated operation between federal and state security agencies.
Awelewa expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the governor, the National Security Adviser, and security operatives for what he called a swift and decisive response. He also noted that the abductees received medical care and support immediately after their rescue.
He assured residents that the LGA would continue strengthening security across all 10 wards, saying the administration would not relent in protecting lives and property.
The freed worshippers returned to Eruku around 6:30 pm on Tuesday, greeted by cheering relatives and residents who filled the streets to welcome them home.
The Owa of Eruku praised the collective rescue effort, saying the community had been anxious since the attack and could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
The incident adds to the growing list of abductions in communities along Kwara’s border areas, especially in Ekiti LGA, which has suffered repeated security breaches in recent years.
