Premier League breaks silence on Man Utd penalty snub against Bournemouth

The Premier League has revealed why Manchester United did not receive a penalty in their 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Friday night.

Stuart Attwell, the referee, pointed to the spot after Matheus Cunha was fouled in the area.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up to give United a 1-0 lead, but Ryan Christie equalised for the hosts after Amad Diallo was tripped in the area, and Attwell waved play on.

The Red Devils restored their lead through James Hill’s own goal

Bournemouth were levelled from the spot after Harry Maguire was shown a straight red for a similar foul.

On why Diallo was not awarded a penalty, the Premier League Match Centre wrote on X: “The referee’s call of no penalty for a challenge by Truffert was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed the contact was not sufficient for a foul.”
