A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Dan Ulasi, has declared that with ₦2 billion, he can challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Naija News reports that Ulasi made the statement on Thursday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, noting that limited access to campaign funds remains a major barrier to credible political competition in Nigeria.
Ulasi emphasised that the excessive monetisation of politics encourages corruption, as elected officials seek to recover campaign expenses after assuming office.
He cited poor infrastructure and basic amenities in local governments across the country, particularly the lack of running water, as evidence of leadership failure.
According to him, many public office holders are comfortable with the culture of waste and extravagance, including the use of long convoys and large entourages for official engagements.
Ulasi stressed that the challenges facing Nigeria were not limited to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that the problems have become both genotypically and phenotypically specific.
He said, “If you give me, if you make available to me, two billion naira, I will give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a run for his life that he will not forget.
Even if he wins, it will be a state. Unfortunately, I don’t have the kind of money people move around in this country for public service. It is the kind of money that encourages people to steal when they’re in government, because you don’t know how they manage to raise billions of naira.
“When you call billions of naira, it gives some of us goose flesh how people spend that kind of money, and we expect them to offer honest service to the common people.
That is why I said 774, local governments in this country, water is not running anywhere, and we seem shamelessly not worried about it.
“People moving vehicles, governors moving 40 vehicles, attending functions in their own city. So the problem is not just PDP, it is so fundamental that it’s become both genotypically and phenotypically specific.
When the problem is genetic and it’s environmental, then we have a serious crisis in this country.”
