Police Unravel Identity of Young Man Behind Violent Anambra Masquerade
The Anambra State Police Command has unraveled the identity of the individual behind the violent conduct associated with the Agaba Awgbu masquerade, following widespread public concern and circulating reports online.
According to police sources, the suspect has been identified as Ifesinachi Ezeolu, a 28-year-old male, allegedly responsible for acts of assault, intimidation, and public disturbance carried out under the guise of a cultural masquerade in Awgbu community.
The Police Command, while confirming the development, reiterated its respect for cultural and traditional practices, stressing that such customs must operate strictly within the bounds of the law. Authorities emphasized that no masquerade or cultural activity is permitted to infringe on citizens’ fundamental rights, including the right to safety, dignity, and freedom from harassment.
“The use of cultural symbols or traditional displays does not confer immunity from the law,” the police stated, warning that any individual or group found engaging in violence or disorder would be dealt with in accordance with existing laws.
Residents of the affected communities have welcomed the police action, expressing hope that the identification of the suspect will deter future abuses and restore public confidence during cultural festivities.
