Ondo Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Stolen Camry in Akure Midnight Attack

The Ondo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its sustained fight against violent crime with the arrest of an armed robbery suspect and the recovery of a stolen vehicle following a swift response to a distress call in Akure.

At about 1:30 a.m. on Friday, 16 January 2026, the Command received a distress call reporting an armed robbery incident at Eleyewo Quarters, Akure. The victims, identified as Olamiposi Omoniyi and Daniel Omoniyi, were reportedly attacked by four armed men.

Upon receiving the report, police operatives attached to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit swiftly mobilised to the scene. Before their arrival, the armed robbers had fired several gunshots, inflicting injuries on the victims and forcefully dispossessing them of their Toyota Camry with Lagos registration number KRD 814 HX.

A coordinated operation was immediately launched with the cooperation and support of vigilant youths in the community. During the operation, one of the suspects was arrested, the stolen vehicle and cutlass were successfully recovered.

The injured victims were promptly conveyed to a hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.

The arrested suspect identified as Nurudeen, aged; 35years has confessed to the crime, while discreet investigations have commenced to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the gang who are still at large.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, commended the operatives for their swift and professional response, as well as the community youths for their cooperation and vigilance.

The CP also expressed profound appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his continuous support, strategic leadership, and provision of operational backing, which have significantly enhanced the Command’s crime-fighting capacity.

The Ondo State Police Command reiterates its commitment to the protection of lives and property and urges members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the Police.
