‘Please, Don’t Let Me Die Here’: Nigerian Woman Stranded In Libya Begs Tinubu Govt For Immediate Rescue

ANigerian woman trapped in Libya has made a desperate plea to the Nigerian government and the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, to urgently facilitate her return home, citing threats to her life and the risk of imprisonment.
SaharaReporters’ findings showed that the woman’s appeal surfaced on TikTok on Monday morning.
In the video, which has since gone viral, she is seen crying and visibly distressed while narrating her ordeal in English and Yoruba.
According to the woman, her undocumented status in Libya has made her a target of both criminals and security operatives.
She explained that her residence had recently been burgled, and she now lives in constant fear of arrest or death.
“Nigerians, please help me. Please, I want come back home and I’m tired here. They (thieves) came to bust our house (to burgle our house). If the police arrest me, I’m going to prison straight. Please, don’t let me die here like this,” she cried out.
“If the people know that someone is currently living where I am, they will use the police to arrest me. I want to come back to Nigeria; please, help me.”
She further said she was forced into hiding and now feared being found by Libyan security operatives.
“I’m hiding now, but every time security operatives come, I fear they will find me. I need to return to Nigeria before it is too late,” she added.
Her video has sparked outrage among Nigerians online, many of whom are calling on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to intervene immediately through NiDCOM and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Libya remains one of the most dangerous destinations for irregular migrants, with thousands of Nigerians previously rescued from detention centres where migrants face torture, extortion, and sexual abuse.
In a similar report, two weeks ago, SaharaReporters reported that the Libyan Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) transferred 18 undocumented migrants of Nigerian nationality from the Sirte Immigration Detention Center to Sabha for repatriation.
The Migrant Rescue Watch, a humanitarian monitoring group, confirmed the transfer in a statement.
According to the organisation, the migrants were moved overland under DCIM supervision as part of ongoing efforts to facilitate returns.
In recent years, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has worked alongside Libyan authorities to support repatriation flights for those who wish to return home.
