Peter Obi breaks silence over Viral Claims of meeting Trump and MC Oluomo

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has dismissed circulating photos on social media purporting to show him in meetings with former U.S. President Donald Trump and Lagos transport union leader, MC Oluomo.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Obi described the images as fake and doctored, stressing that the stories attached to them were fabricated to mislead the public.

“I have not met Mr Trump recently, nor have I had any such meeting with MC Oluomo,” he stated.

Obi expressed concern over what he called the persistent dangers of fake news and disinformation in Nigerian politics, warning that such propaganda was designed to confuse and distract citizens from pressing national issues.

He urged Nigerians and the international community to verify information before sharing, cautioning against the growing culture of misinformation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, if I had such meetings, I would have personally made them public on my X handle. My politics has never been about seeking praise or cheap publicity,” Obi clarified.

Reiterating his commitment to integrity and accountability, Obi said his focus remained on addressing Nigeria’s critical challenges, including insecurity, education, healthcare, rule of law, and poverty alleviation.

Concluding his statement, the former Anambra governor reaffirmed his campaign mantra: “A new Nigeria is POssible.”
