PDP Chairman Dismisses Fubara’s Defection, says APC Switch Won’t Secure Victory in 2027”

The factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ewor, has downplayed the political significance of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s reported defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the move will not guarantee electoral victory for the ruling party in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interaction with journalists, Ewor described the defection as a “personal political decision” that does not reflect the will or strength of the PDP’s grassroots base in Rivers State. According to him, political success is determined by the people, not by the movement of one individual, no matter how highly placed.
“Defecting to APC does not automatically translate to winning elections. The people are wiser now and will always vote based on performance and credibility, not party switching,” Ewor stated.
The PDP chieftain maintained that the party remains solid and deeply rooted across Rivers State, stressing that its structures and loyal supporters cannot be dismantled by defection or political realignments. He further accused the APC of relying on “political propaganda” rather than genuine grassroots engagement to strengthen its chances ahead of 2027.
Ewor also urged PDP members to remain focused and united, assuring them that the party is already repositioning itself to reclaim its dominance in future elections. He emphasized that internal challenges would be addressed through dialogue and adherence to democratic principles within the party.
The alleged defection of Governor Fubara has continued to generate mixed reactions across the political landscape, with supporters and critics offering differing views on its implications for Rivers State politics and the 2027 polls.
As the political climate gradually heats up, observers believe that the coming months will reveal whether high-profile defections will truly influence voter sentiment or merely reshape party dynamics behind the scenes.
