Information obtained by Newsmen has it that staff of Imo ENTRACO have impounded a truck conveying INEC sensitive materials meant for the conduct of Anambra Governorship election in November, 2021.
An insider source who was at the scene of the incident disclosed that a truck carrying materials for Anambra Governorship election was yesterday diverted by staff of Imo ENTRACO for allegedly plying during odd hour in Owerri.
According to the source, the order to impound the vehicle was said to have been given by the Director of Operations of ENTRACO, simply identified as Lawrence Okoye and allegedly authorised by the ENTRACO General Manager, MacDonald Ebere.
The source further maintained that on receiving the information about the seizure of the vehicle conveying the sensitive materials, the Commissioner of Police in the state was said to have been alerted by the Inspector General of Police to intervene, but the source revealed that police efforts to recover and release the seized vehicle was initially resisted by operatives of the Imo ENTRACO.
Our insider source further revealed that during the raid after authorities of Imo ENTRACO resisted police from taken pessession of the seized vehicle, it was disclosed that men of Nigerian police began raid of all offices to recover the vehicle battery, but was surprised to have discovered o we three million cash hidden under an abandoned cabinet table inside a locked up office belonging to the Director of Operations. The source added that the Police left with the alleged money as exhibit.
The source maintained that due to the insult received from the operatives of Imo ENTRACO, the police were said to have ordered the immediate release of all vehicles seized by the commission, having gotten information that owners of those vehicles were unable to pay N70, 000, N80, 000 to N100, 000 respectively demanded from them by operatives of ENTRACO under the directive of both the ENTRACO boss and the Director of Operations.
Meanwhile, the driver of the truck conveying the materials simply identified as, Sule Yerima alleged that officials of Imo ENTRACO demanded one hundred thousand naira from him to enable them release the vehicle, adding that when he told them that he had no money with him, they began to remove the vehicle battery, telling him to meet with both the GM of ENTRACO, MacDonald Ebere or the Director of Operations, Lawrence Okoye for further directives.
The source further informed that when the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Nnamdi Anyanehie was contacted on phone, he was said to have asked them to hand over the phone to the most Senior officer of ENTRACO, but unknown to him that the call was coming from the COS, the Director of Operations, Lawrence Okoye was alleged to have threatened to deal with the person on call for having interest in his job and immediately, ended the call abruptly.
Our insider source also revealed that seeing the magnitude of embarrassment the incident had caused the state, the Governor directed the Commissioner of Police to immediately arrest anyone seen around the scene including ENTRACO Director of Operations, Lawrence Okoye and the GM until his arrival from Abuja.
Following this incident, a group of Imo residents interviewed by our Reporter expressed bitterness on the level of frustrations and embarrassment the operatives of Imo ENTRACO had brought to the state, and called for it’s immediate disbandment.
“The Governor of the state should immediately rejig ENTRACO, to avoid further embarrassment to the state. Most of the operatives are so brutal and wicked when ever they arrest a motorist. Who knows if politicians had paid them to intercept INEC sensitive materials in order to rig the forthcoming Anambra Governorship election before hand?” An angry Imolite stated.
