Osun Governorship Election Heats Up As APC Candidate Oyebamiji Picks Deputy, Set For Showdown With Gov Adeleke
The APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, picked Benjamin Kayode Adereti, an engineer from Ile-Ife, as his running mate for the forthcoming poll where the incumbent, Governor Ademola Adeleke, will also be contesting for reelection.
Preparations for the August 2026 Osun State governorship election intensified on Saturday as leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ife Central Local Government rallied support for the party’s ticket following the selection of a deputy governorship candidate from the area.
The APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, picked Benjamin Kayode Adereti, an engineer from Ile-Ife, as his running mate for the forthcoming poll where the incumbent, Governor Ademola Adeleke, will also be contesting for reelection.
In a statement on Sunday by signatories which included former Senator Babajide Omoworare, Prof Taiwo Olaiya, former Ife Central council chairman, Nike Omoworare, and other prominent APC stakeholders after a solidarity meeting held in Ajebandele, Ile-Ife, party leaders described the decision on the deputy as a strategic recognition of Ife’s political relevance in Osun State.
The APC leaders insisted that Adereti’s selection was apt and would deliver victory in August.
They noted that Adereti, who previously contested for the Ife Federal Constituency seat under the APC in the 2023 general elections, had distinguished himself as a party member, adding that his choice was “well deserved.”
The statement added that “Unlike the inexperienced characters currently occupying Government House in the state, they described the two APC gentlemen as precocious individuals with good and verifiable educational backgrounds, family values and profound working, vocational, and professional certifications, particularly about Asiwaju Bola Munirudeen Oyebamiji whose competence and certified experience as a finance expert has once proved handy in the State. The leaders insisted that governance is a serious business that requires Osun State to field its bests, as clearly reflected in AMBO–Adereti ticket.
“The leaders assured the party leaders and good people of Osun State that members of APC in Ife Central Local Government will work closely with Engr. Adereti and the leadership of APC across Ifeland and Osun State to strengthen the victory at the polls and bring an end to the lacklustre, manipulative, grossly incompetent and manifestly confused administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke come 15th August, 2026.
“The AMBO–Adereti ticket will consolidate on the Renewed Hope of PBAT, while discharging purposeful leadership and accelerated development to the good people of Osun State.”
