In its determination to always prioritize workers welfare, the Ondo state government has paid three months arrears of salaries owed workers of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo (RUGIPO).
Our reporter gathered that
the workers while appreciating the gesture of the state government appealed for more consideration as obtainable in the mainstream civil service.
The present administration on assumption of office met over seven months salary arrears owed workers by the previous Government.
The three state owned tertiary institutions were equally owed subventions and salaries.
To change the situation of workers, the government has paid six iutbofvthe seven months arrears owed workers in the state civil service while the issue of subventions to the state’s tertiary institutions has equally been attended to.
The latest is the three months salary arrears paid to workers of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo RUGIPO.
Reacting, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP), RUGIPO chapter, Mr Chris Olowolade thanked the government for paying three months arears at once.
Olowolade however sought government’s intervention in other critical areas to move the institution forward.
The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo said workers deserve their wages despite the lean resources accruing to the state from the Federation account and the Akeredolu administration will stop at nothing to make workers happy
He said the gesture has further demonstrated Governor Akeredolu’s ,Barrister Banji Alabi and the management commitment towards workers welfare.
