INCIDENT REPORT: SAFETY BREACHES AT NEPAL PETROL STATION, IGBATORO

Location:Nepal Petrol Station, Igbatoro, Ondo State

Lncident Summary

Yesterday, August 6, 2024, Prince Oriade Adebawo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Response, made an unscheduled visit to Nepal Petrol Station, where he discovered several alarming safety breaches. The petrol station was found to be operating without proper safety gadgets or equipment in place. This gross disregard for safety standards and government regulatory directives prompted immediate action from Prince Adebawo.

Safety Breaches:

1. Absence of proper safety gadgets and equipment e.g.fire extinguishers.
2. Inadequate safety signs.
3. Blatant display of gross ignorance as regards safety requirements and practices.
4. Non-compliance with government regulatory directives.

Action Taken:

Prince Adebawo queried the manager of the petrol station, highlighting the safety breaches and emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety standards. He assured that adequate disciplinary action would be taken against the erring fuel outlet in the coming days to serve as a deterrent to other medium and high-risk commercial businesses.

Recommendations:

The management of the erring petrol station will be hit with the commensurate sanctions after due deliberations in the days ahead. Also, adequate steps would be taken to ensure strict compliance with safety guidelines in line with industry standards.

Conclusion:

The incident highlights the need for constant vigilant monitoring and enforcement of safety standards in medium and high-risk commercial businesses. Without a doubt, Ondo State’s zero-tolerance policy towards avoidable disasters and loss of life and property must be maintained at all times. Prince Adebawo’s swift action demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety and preventing potential disasters.
