The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State have reacted to a purported claim credited to the embattled Deputy Governor of the State.
The embattled Deputy Governor of the have claimed that the State Commissioner of Police have withdrawn all his Police aides meant to provide cover and protection for him after he had a heated argument with the State Police Commissioner on Saturday night in the State. A viral video shared online on Saturday night evidenced the moment the Deputy Commissioner of Police was barricaded from leaving the Government Quarters, a barricade that lasted for about four hours.
Reacting to Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi claimed, the Ondo State Police Commissioner had responded to by saying he had not withdraw the police escort attached to the Deputy Governor and he does not have the power to do so. He said only the Inspector General of police have the authority to post and withdraw Police escort to attached to the Deputy Governor. He reiterated his priority is to protect the people of the State and enjoyed everyone to go about their businesses.
Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi troubles stems after some powers center in the State discovered he will be decamping to the opposition Political Party in the State to contest against his Boss, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. The heated political issues could not be tamed as the Deputy Governor who some persons in the State tagged Cousin to the Governor made moves to defects to the other party and contest against his Boss in the forth coming gubernatorial election in the state.
Earlier the deputy Governor had claimed the State House of Assembly have perfected plans to impeach him after taken N10M inducement bribe from the Governor. The allegation which generated heated reaction from the lawmakers in the State. The Lawmakers however refuted Agboola Ajayi claimed that nobody could bribe them to impeach him and that they are just after legislative business. The lawmakers indictment came after five days the deputy Governor have jumped parties and vowed not to resign as the Deputy Governor of the State.
Agboola Ajayi would contest the forth coming election against Governor Arakunrin Akeredolu in the State if he clinched and declared the winner of the primary election of the opposition party. The deputy Governor new party have not finalised and schedule a primary election date in the State. There are a good number of candidates that will be contesting the Primaries against the Deputy Governor. Many candidates are currently jostling to be the party flag bearer against Rotimi Akeredolu.
Though, there are some in the State claiming if the Deputy fail to clinch the Governorship ticket in the of his party, he might be compensated with the Senatorial seat ticket in 2023.
