Ogun Approves Major Road, Hospital and Power Projects, Including Ifo Road Expansion

The Ogun State Executive Council has approved a new round of infrastructure and economic development projects across the state, including road reconstruction, two new general hospitals, a power-generation initiative and a new agency to support small businesses.

For Ifo residents, one of the most important approvals is a variation for the reconstruction of the Sango–Ota–Ijoko–Agbado–Oke-Aro–Akute Road, Phase I, which runs through parts of Ifo Local Government Area. The government says the project is intended to improve connectivity, ease movement and support economic activity.

Other roads approved include the 4.87-kilometre Siun Junction–Iperu Junction Road, the 4.87-kilometre Simawa–Lukosi/Ogijo Road and the 69.2-kilometre Abeokuta–Abule Egba Road.

The council also approved the construction of new general hospitals in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area, and Aiyepe, Odogbolu Local Government Area, as part of efforts to expand access to healthcare.

On the economic side, Ogun approved the creation of the Ogun State Enterprise Development Agency to coordinate support for micro, small and medium-sized businesses. The state also approved participation in electricity generation through Gateway Power Limited, with the aim of improving power supply for industries and businesses.

The same Executive Council meeting also approved the appointment of Otunba Osunsina Olumide John as the new Olu of Ifo.

For Ifo, the road approval is the development to watch most closely. Residents along the Sango, Ijoko, Agbado, Oke-Aro and Akute corridor have long dealt with traffic and road-condition challenges, so attention will now turn to the scope of the approved variation, contractor mobilisation and when visible work will begin.
