‘No dreadlocks, beards’ – university rolls out new dresscode for students
The management of Babcock University has rolled out new guidelines for students’ haircuts ahead of their forthcoming examinations.
In a statement signed by Olanivi Arije, its vice president of student development, Babcock said it has nullified all hair passes.
Hair-pass tags are illegal documents issued to students as a waiver for specific hairstyles.
The university said the hair pass does not confer any valid and or legitimate right to grow or maintain unapproved hairstyles within its campuses.
The use, circulation, or recognition of hair-pass in any form is henceforth outlawed at Babcock University with immediate effect.
Babcock’s management said the regulations will take effect at the start of its second semester in January.
The school management stated that the new regulations shall be strictly enforced across its campuses.
“Students currently in possession of any form of hair-pass or exemption are directed to disregard and discontinue its use immediately. Any student found presenting, using, or relying on such a document shall be investigated for the violation of University regulations and, if found liable, shall face the inevitable consequence accordingly,” the statement reads.
Babcock’s management said voluminous or unkempt hair, beards, and dreadlocks are prohibited for male students, while extreme, indecent, or inconsistent hairstyles are not allowed for females.
It stated that body-hugging clothes, sleeveless blouses or dresses, sagging of trousers, baggy, boot-cut, or over-length trousers,
Babcock also said tying scarves to corporate or official academic wear is prohibited at certain times.
The school added that Bubu, dansiki outfits, joggers, sportswear, or walk-out wear are prohibited within stipulated times.
The management warned that any student found in possession of the prohibited items on campus will be disciplined.
“The university will not entertain excuses, appeals, or claims of ignorance. All students are expected to resume fully compliant with these regulations,” the statement added.
