Nnamdi Kanu set to be turbaned by Sultan of Sokoto
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’adu Abubakar III, has reportedly expressed support for a peaceful resolution concerning Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), joking that Kanu is now his “subject” and will one day be turbaned.
The remark was shared during a visit by Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre yesterday.
Governor Otti, who was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel, as well as Abia’s Attorney General, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN), and his Special Adviser on Media, Ferdinand Ekeoma, assured the IPOB leader that efforts to secure his release remain active and ongoing.
Officials from the Sokoto State Government also attended the visit.
Speaking after the meeting, Ekeoma said Otti encouraged Kanu to remain resilient, noting that initiatives begun more than two years ago to resolve the matter had been intensified.
“Governor Otti assured that the situation would be resolved administratively and expressed confidence that Kanu would soon regain his freedom,” Ekeoma said.
The governor reportedly informed Kanu of the Sultan’s supportive stance on a peaceful solution, adding humorously that Kanu had become the Sultan’s “subject” and would eventually be turbaned.
The comment reportedly lightened the mood, drawing laughter from Kanu, who was said to be in high spirits during the interaction.
Kanu expressed appreciation for the visit, commending the governor for his engagement.
He also lauded the developmental projects in Abia State and encouraged Otti to maintain a focus on governance that benefits the people.
The IPOB leader concluded by praying for the governor and his team.
