Nigerians Speak Out After Protest Video Demanding Nnamdi Kanu’s Freedom Is Shared by Omoyele Sowore
Public reactions have continued to emerge following the circulation of a protest video shared online by activist Omoyele Sowore, which shows supporters demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore uploaded the clip on his Facebook page, explaining that a group of demonstrators had gathered in Aba to organize a march calling for Kanu’s freedom. In the post accompanying the video, he declared that the protesters had “taken over the town” with a march advocating for Kanu’s release, using the hashtag #FreeNnamdiKanuNOW.
In the footage, a large crowd can be seen assembled around speakers while several participants filmed the moment on their mobile phones. The demonstration drew the attention of nearby residents as supporters continued to chant and rally in support of Kanu.
Soon after it was posted, the video spread rapidly across social media, attracting thousands of reactions, comments, and shares from Nigerians on different platforms.
Opinions about the protest have been divided. Some individuals praised the demonstration, describing it as a peaceful means for citizens to voice their views and show solidarity with Kanu. Others, however, questioned the choice of Aba as the location for the rally. According to some commentators, protests concerning Kanu’s detention might be more impactful if directed at institutions or authorities responsible for decisions regarding his case
