Nigerian Student in Germany Shocked as Professor Walks Her to Class

A Nigerian lady studying in Germany has shared her biggest culture shock about how friendly professors are abroad. She said that growing up in Nigeria made her see lecturers and professors as gods, people students couldn’t freely approach.

She explained that she got lost while looking for her new classroom and was surprised when someone told her to ask a professor for help. “Ask professor?” she laughed. In Nigeria, you’ll think twice before even knocking their door!” To her surprise, the female professor left her students and walked her around the building to find the class.

The lady said she was completely shocked, especially when the professor later told her students to call her by her first name, Petra. In Nigeria? You dare not! she joked. The experience, she said, taught her to unlearn the fear and hierarchy she grew up with and to start seeing people even professors as human beings, not gods.
